While I was in my kampung for holiday, one of my relative told me that he still keep his old Tokina RMC 500mm f/8 Reflex mirror for O/OM, however full of dust and I don't know how to clean it.

This is the lens should be:

as we are in old lens thread..i also got some inquiries...maybe thinking of investing those old OM lens and pair em with the e5XX..is it a good idea? is it really hard to manual focus?

thanks..

my advice.. save your cash. get the new lenses. make your purchases worthwhile. some might praise the old OM lenses but for me trying to focus a MF lens on a small viewfinder without any focusing aids is just frustating. you get home, download your images and realize that only 10% are in focus. my two cents.

I agree, not so worth the time (esp the dusty funggy old lens) but may worth to keep the classic.

Frust no more....With Old OM lens attached to E420/520, using LV, there is AF Confirmation for Face Detection.....:666: :simsui:

If you're goin to ask Kingshah, fahrur.... I dunno.... their opi-onion as for me...

no problemo. Infact Maxby of PM oso have the 'worries' of 'hard to focus' dilemma when asked about using the 'manual' Zuiko.

I've just 'cleaned' my Zuiko 300mm/4.5 and just need a better much shop to cleaned & re-align the focusing mechanism.

Indeed.. hard to open and clean.

Accoring to the owner, he keep the lens in the dusty box for about 20yrs.. 4 of his lenses (5 all together) were gone missing..

MF using Live View with OM lenses is very nice and accurate. However, this will limit your scope of photography.

If you yourself have sharp eyes, then even using MF with small viewfinder with OM lenses shouldn't be a problem.

It all depends on your style. mfahrur or kingshah would be able to list down the specific usage of each OM lens.

shahir,

if u want to use or buy OM lens...i recommend few lenses..but depending on ur style and need.

1) 50mm 1.8 (cheaper) - remember it will be 100mm EFL, this lens reportedly better than the 1.4 version. I have both 1.8 & 1.4 version.

2) 135mm 2.8 or 3.5 - I have the 2.8 version, love it - 270mm EFL (not so expensive)

3) 28mm 3.5 - i'm not sure about the price. CHeck Ebay

latest news from Singapore: my friend just managed to order the OM mount adaptor (ori) for S$80 at John 3:16, Funan Center. Good deal. This used to be the price that Cathay was selling for until there was a shortage and it went up to S$180!!

EFL = Effective Focal Length - meaning on olympus forthirds body, example, Zuiko 14-42 will be effective 28-84mm...due the so called 2x multiplication effect on fourthirds body...

I think it's still depending on the condition of the lens..there will be price difference...exotic, hard to find lens are expensive..

shahir,

From the lens pic, i did not see any zoom ring, only focus ring...so to zoom in/or out u need to grab the focus ring, pull backward/push forward for zooming..i'm not sure if is there any switch on the lens..i think some kwanon (canon) lenses also ada this type of lens zoom mechanism...

get the 50mm 1.8, cheaper..of course u will nangis to see the 1.4 version punya price...hehehe
