You maybe interested in another old nikkor lenses i saw in Hong Kong :

i think the bokeh mainly due to the faster aperture@f1.2.

cantik betul...
abang raime, how much you bought the nikor 55mmf1.2? what kind of adapter you used? manual focus i think? compare to your om 50mm f1.4, which is cheaper? thinking of getting lense like that, can give views and the price????

i bought an adaptor from dino@photomalaysia.com. in term of price, om50mm f1.4 is cheaper (f1.4 vs f1.2). btw, you can check the price at shasinki as my copy is 2nd hand. another thing to share, manual focusing requires extra patience esp if someone is using camera like e510/e520 with quite small viewfinder. good luck.

When you use Nikkor optics on Olympus body then they will say you shots are not sharp.
But if you attach it to Nikon body then they will salute you even though the shots are not really sharp. That's the photography world we are surviving now :D

Who ask you to accept their views..if the shot looks nice to you, who cares about them. YOU are all that matters. If you are shooting for a customer, as long as the customer is happy..who cares what the critics say?

I dont know why la bro.. but somebody at PM saying it is insane for you to shoot potrait at f1.2, because of its narrow DOF... bla bla bla need tripod la whatever. Even it is hard to get both eye equally focused. Are they correct? Or it is just only when you shoot headshot?
Raime.. u still my murahguru.. hahahaha.. when you are coming to Ipoh again?? TT?

That's because of the E-3 body
If Raime shoot on D700 or even D3k then everything would be perfect!

It's insane if you are not using an Olympus.
Suppose you are using a FF, the DOF at 2m is 0.0926m that means the nearest limit is 1.95m and far limit is 2.04m
If you are using a X1.5, APS-C, in order to have the same image size, you would have to shoot at 3m. Then that DOF would be 0.140268m The near limit would be 2.93m and the far limit would be 3.07m
But if you are using the X2, 4/3, then you would be standing 4m from the subject to get the same image size. The DOF then becomes 0.187898m. The near limit would become 3.90m and the Far limit 4.09m
You would notice that on the 4/3 camera, the DOF is DOUBLE that of the FF. We can enjoy the brightness and yet have bokeh and all the advantage.

DOF calculator lah.
While I was at it, I did a little bit of calculations on my 25/1.4. If I were to get the same image size as the 55/1.2, I would need to stand 2.2m from the subject, my DOF would be 0.323278m. My near limit would be 2.05m and the far limit 2.37m
No wonder I have such a hard time getting sharp subjects!!!

thanks blu for invaluable explanation on DOF. btw, i think olympus image stabiliser comes in handy when shooting shallow dof@f1.2. during penang flickr outing last saturday, i think only two participants including myself were shooting potraiture with manual focus. another one was using e520 and om50mm f1.8. the rest as usual were canikons.

Ipoh here u can outing with canikons and sony group. I hv no problem hanging with them. As long we know 4/3 and their system pro and cons, we are save. :sifone:

Yes, no problem for me too. I'm shooting with the Sony Alpharians group here in KK, quite many of them with regular TT.

Please let us molest this f0.95 (http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2009/12/09/the-leica-50-noctilux-f-0-95-lens-review/) when you get it.
Jokes aside, I think bokeh depends on the blades and construction of the aperture.

Its a challenge to use other lense...especially manual mode.
O.k this is a basic bout the DOF. The easy way. How can you get more depth in focus?
1. Smaller Aperture openings have larger Depth of Field.
2. Distance increase the Depth of Field.
3. The wider angle the lens, the greater the Depth of Field.
Sifu2 please correct me if i'm wrong. just my limaduit.
